Deliverable F - Project Website and Presentation

Prototype Website

The prototype website is available at www.thecolourpurple.com.

Functional Testing

The site was tested using a script of defined test cases to ensure all requirements were met. The test cases and results can be viewed here.

Usability Testing

For usability testing, we had various consumers try the site for the first time. All the individuals have some interaction with computers at their place of employment and most have computers in their residence. The basic process data survey questions posed to each individual were as follows:

How straightforward was the account creation process?
How intuitive is the shopping cart and ordering process?
How easy is it to navigate the site?
How consistent is this site with other sites that you have purchased from?
How enjoyable was the look and feel of the site?
Overall, how easy was the site to use?

The guidance on the site was minimal. The main direction they were given was the link, that the site was inactive and in testing, and to give an opinion of their experience. Testing was performed from various computers.

Below is some of the feedback received:
  • "I think the benefit with this site is that while it had a lot of information, it wasn't cluttered."
  • "The site was very user friendly and the account creation went smoothly"
  • "The sale items made it look good. Great job!"
  • "It was easily navigable, what you would not expect but hope for in a smooth process."
  • "The shopping cart and ordering process is very intuitive. I didn't see where anyone would have a problem unless they were using bogus credit card information. I was unable to enter random numbers for the credit card number."
  • "I thought the layout and color scheme were well thought out. The bold colors were very fitting for that type of art."
  • "I like the site and the idea of it. If you want to be critical, with nature of the site I found the louder (pink and green) colors distracting"
  • "I like the website...great colors"
  • "Overall, I really enjoyed the shopping experience; it was user friendly, colorful and simple enough for those that are not computer savvy."
The overall evaluation of the site was good. There was a little confusion when one participant registered and was automatically logged in, couldn't find a way to continue shopping and then was distracted by the logout link. We also had two contrasting views on the site color. One male thought the colors were distracting while one female and male referred to the site as colorful. The highlight of the site appeared to be the Special Deals section, which grabbed a lot of attention.

Performance Testing

During normal browsing with a broadband connection, the page load time is typically under 5-6 seconds.

Site performance was also analyzed using the following site: www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze. The analysis reported that the size of the HTML and CSS was good, but the page weight due to the images was high. By running the same analysis on similar competitive sites and Amazon.com, the results were consistent with the results for this site. Because the images on the site have been optimized, the nature of the site is to sell artwork which requires the images, and with a response time consistent with similar "gallery" sites, the performance of this site is found to be acceptable.
