About
Hacktionary (pronounced hack.tion.ar.y) is a searchable web-based application and free content dictionary for the security community. The name Hacktionary is the concatenation of the word "hack" and "tionary" from the word dictionary. The difference with this dictionary is that it only includes the definition of words specifically to the ever changing Information Assurance or IT Security industry. For example, a visitor to the site will be searching for words like "zero-day exploit" or "firewall". One of the ideas behind Hacktionary is to have a community experience that helped make Wikipedia, Mozilla and Linux the companies they are today. To bring about this community experience, Hacktionary allows visitors to contribute by adding new security words to the dictionary. The goal of this web application is to create a community and keep practitioners in the security community educated and informed with new vulnerability and exploit terminology.
