How SwiftAid.org Helps You Help Others
When disaster strikes, our organization serves as a strategic center through which providers of material aid can be assured that their assistance is deployed with maximum effect. SwiftAid.org does not warehouse emergency food or supplies. Rather, it partners with aid providers to channel locally available resourses to meet emergency needs. SwiftAid.org works in close cooperation with federal and state agencies and other aid provider organizations within the overall strategy of emergency response. Our hallmark service involves the function of bringing together and coordinating resources and energies from disparate third parties who wish to offer emergency assistance but who might otherwise not find an effective channel for strategic involvement. In addition to its cash grant program, SwiftAid.org specializes in the large-scale coordination and deployment of third-party aid providers.
Who can be a SwiftAid.org aid provider?
Anyone who would like to be involved in emergency assistance through SwiftAid.org may do so. We accept the assistance of businesses, individuals, agencies, and charitable organizations. To reduce the risk of fraud and abuse, we require that all providers register to be involved.
What types of aid may you provide through us?
Food and Water
SwiftAid.org recognizes that food deployed to emergency areas must be accessible and edible under sometimes severely restrive conditions. Foods must be packaged in easily opened containers that do not require special opening equipment, such as can openers or knives, unless such equipment is provided with the food package. Additionally, since cooking facilities and water are often scarce in disaster areas, foods must often be made available in ready-to-eat form. For these reasons, SwiftAid.org encourages the provision of meals-ready-to-eat (MREs) or other food items that meet the criteria of being easily opened and readily consumed.
If you wish to be a food provider, you will be asked to indicate the nature of the food that you would like to supply in terms of the above criteria. SwiftAid.org will work with you to ensure that your provisions are useful within the given arena. In some cases canned or meals that require cooking may be acceptible, depending on the conditions of those in need. SwiftAid.org may, however, choose not to accept certain forms of food provision if it deems them to be impractical.
Delivery to of food provisions to donation sites may be accomplished by you or by a transportation provider coordinated through SwiftAid.org. We will contact you after your registration as a food provider to ascertain the most practical mode of delivery.
[Back to Top]Shelter
Emergency shelter is essential to those who have lost their homes or whose supply of essential utilities such as electricity and heating fuel have been interrupted. SwiftAid.org welcomes the offering of adequate shelter of all kinds from third-party providers, including, but not limited to, makeshift or M*A*S*H shelters, public buildings, and private homes. In all cases, a representative of SwiftAid.org must visit prospective shelters to ascertain their suitability. A shelter must have adequate bedding and sanitary facilities for the number of victims assigned to it. Those who wish to provide shelter in their homes must register sufficiently in advance of an emergency to allow time for a criminal records check. In all cases SwiftAid.org will coordinate with shelter providers to ensure that sufficient food and water are supplied to each shelter for the number of victims it houses.
[Back to Top]Transportation
Transporting victims of natural disaster to places of safety and delivering food, water, and other emergency supplies are essential services of any emergency response operation. SwiftAid.org tracks transporation needs within emergency areas and allocates volunteer transportation resources to meet those needs. We welcome the registration of those who wish to volunteer air, water, or ground transporation during times of emergency. When disaster strikes, SwiftAid.org will mobilize available transporation providers, both contacting providers already in our database and welcoming new volunteers. Through a coordinated network of transport vehicles, SwiftAid.org and its third-party providers will bring victims to saftey and provide them with life-sustaining supplies.
